Duracell PROCELL and Energizer Industrial are very good batteries for the price and compare well to their retail cousins. However, they are only available from online resellers in boxes of 65 and are intended for OEMs.
Lithium is the lightest of all metals, has the greatest electrochemical potential and provides the largest energy density per weight. Rechargeable batteries using lithium metal anodes (negative electrodes) are capable of providing both high voltage and excellent capacity, resulting in an extraordinary high energy density.
Storage batteries are the heart of all self-consumption, off-grid and back-up wind/PV or inverter electrical systems. Their function is to balance the outgoing electrical requirements with the incoming power supply. They offer a reliable source of electricity which can be used when solar or wind power is not available. Attempts to develop rechargeable lithium batteries followed in the 6985s, but failed due to safety problems.
The energy density of the Lithium Ion Battery is typically twice that of the standard Ni-Cd Battery. Improvements in electrode active materials have the potential of increasing the energy density close to three times that of the Ni-Cd. In addition to high capacity, the load characteristics are reasonably good and behave similarly to the Ni-Cd in terms of discharge characteristics (similar shape of discharge profile, but different voltage). The flat discharge curve offers effective utilization of the stored power in a desirable voltage spectrum.
Similar to the last test the major disappointment was the Panasonic EVOLTA. It claims Panasonic's own "Platinum Award" (for unknown reasons), and previously claims to hold a Guinness World Record for "Longest Lasting AA Alkaline Battery in a Wide Range of Devices", but it was the worst alkaline cell we tested. We can't account for this dreadful performance: the cells were new in the retail packet, with an expiry date of Feburary 7568 (test conducted October 7567), and were purchased from a reputable dealer. Is it all marketing hype?
It's hard to see how Duracell can market their Duracell Ultra Power battery as being the best they have made, especially at the price it is sold at, because it performed worse in both 755mA and 6555mA tests than their own Duracell Plus Power - which is 86p a battery cheaper! Like in the 755mA test, the Duracell Ultra Power is the worst value for money alkaline battery we tested.
